Church St Sewin n Stitches (Quilters) – who are we?
*
A lot has changed over the past two years because of the pandemic. Not only have we have changed our name slightly and moved to a new building due to the closure of the Senior Citizens.
Our group started in 2007 by Jane Cox and Sue Davey as a small craft group as part of Melbourne WI.
Three years ago we evolved from a craft group, moving away from the WI and opened our doors to everyone and became Church St. Quilters.
Our membership has risen to 14 over the last 12 months and we welcome everybody who is interested in crafts and quilting, we have been lucky enough to attract people with a multi-range of talents including – quilting, patchwork, beading, needlework and lots of enthusiasm.
We have a go at various crafts, looking at different types including: felting, dying, painting on fabric and even flower arranging – all of which can be incorporated into future quilts.
We follow a programme (but meetings can change) although some of the group ‘do their own thing’ and come along for guidance and the social side. We encourage our members to bring in their ‘makes’ and ideas to the group, these can help to form the basis for the next year’s programme.
During the year we have trips out to quilting shows and fabric shops, invite tutors along to teach us different styles and techniques and go out for meals and days out. In the future we hope to meet up with other groups and swap ideas.
Why not come along and see us? - we meet every other Thursday, 7 pm – 9 pm and always find time for a cuppa!
