This week we are starting on Blackwork.
It is believed that Blackwork started in the Tudor period, originally brought over by Katherine of Aragon and was used to decorate collars and cuffs. Usually worked in black thread - hence the name.
The stitches used very basic, mainly back stitch that is worked into intricate patterns.
Here is a list of the requirements:
A piece of 18 holes to the inch canvas which will cost £2 for the piece.
Any embroidery thread preferably a dark colour.
An embroidery hoop
Tapestry needle (these are blunt ended, not essential) cost 99p
Week one we will practise the stitches and then get going on a small project suitable for a box lid, or picture which we will complete throughout the year.
Karen has a few patterns to share if needed.
UFO - 1st March - Change of week
We will be having an 'UFO' or unfinished object week - this is a change to the programme. Bring items along that just need that extra hour or two to finish.
