This week we are looking at 'leaves' we are talking about the use of colour.
We will be using various coloured fabrics and embroidery threads - the challenge is to use threads that you don't really like and make them disappear with this magical process!! 3rd JanuaryOur challenge for the year is to create a quilt/wallhanging 24" x 24", the design can be anything but has to include 3 pieces of fabric to keep the continuity. The quilts will be displayed at Melbourne Arts Festival in September. November 20188th November - Autumn PostcardFollowing last weeks change of plan, we will be working on the postcards this week instead.
25th October - Autumn PostcardsThis week we are designing and making Autumn Postcards. Think colder mornings, coloured leaves, conkers, blackberries etc. Cards are 4 x 6 or 5 x 7, with stitched edges and the latest in the collection.
Fabric roll week 1 & 2 27th September & 11th OctoberOver the next two sessions we will be making a fabric roll to hold all the bits and bobs we take with us when we are sewing. Fabric printing 5th SeptemberWe will be taking everyday objects and experimenting by trying out printing on fabric and paper, using poster paints.
UFO & Scissor keeper - 30 AugustThis week we are having a second UFO week and Jane is going to make the Scissor Keeper we made a few years ago for people who didn't make one last time UFO evening - 16th AugustWe will be catching up with all the news from FOQ and holding a UFO meeting , along with show and tell. Abstract Bonding Collage - 2nd AugustJenny is bringing along lots of scrap fabrics to create an abstract collage, these can be used as backgrounds for further collages
Summer Postcards -This week we are making the third in our postcard selection - the theme is Summer: Think: sunshine, beaches, holidays, icecream flowers, bee's, no school!! JunePainting/printingThis week we are going to try the art of silk painting and fabric printing, we will be using silk scarves and dropping silk paints onto them to give the background pattern and then stamping a pattern using Indian stamps. MayUFO - 7th MayThis week is UFO week so Jenny said that she will talk through any problems or answer any questions about quilting. Tbags - 24th MayWe are going to explore the world of recycling by using used T-bags to create an A5 book cover or create leaves which can be used in an arrangement. Blackwork - 10th MayKaren is going to teach us different blackwork stitches, and start on a design to make a lid for a box. What you need to bring: Pins and needles Selection of threads Scissors Wadding fabric various types beads and sequins The Village Street will be over a two session period This week we are starting on Blackwork. It is believed that Blackwork started in the Tudor period, originally brought over by Katherine of Aragon and was used to decorate collars and cuffs. Usually worked in black thread - hence the name. The stitches used very basic, mainly back stitch that is worked into intricate patterns. Here is a list of the requirements: A piece of 18 holes to the inch canvas which will cost £2 for the piece. Any embroidery thread preferably a dark colour. An embroidery hoop Tapestry needle (these are blunt ended, not essential) cost 99p Week one we will practise the stitches and then get going on a small project suitable for a box lid, or picture which we will complete throughout the year. Karen has a few patterns to share if needed. UFO - 1st March - Change of weekWe will be having an 'UFO' or unfinished object week - this is a change to the programme. Bring items along that just need that extra hour or two to finish.
15th February 2018The first of our season postcards - 4 x 6 or 5 x 7, a winter scene - think January/February. Cold and frosty - snow, polar bears, igloo's, robins, frozen ponds, winter scapes, snowflakes and ice - just a few suggestions! Get those winter thinking caps on! Cracker Wall Hanging1st February 2018We will be experimenting with trapping shapes under net to create a small decorative panel. Dandelion Seed Heads18th January 2018A few years ago Jane and Sue visited the Uttoxeter Quilting show and as part of the day attended a course called 'How to make a dandelion seed head picture' Unfortunately neither of us cannot remember the name of the tutor, but would like to acknowledge her for the picture. At the start of the New Year we like to present the group with a surprise 'make', this year we made the little packages up so everyone could try their hand at a dandelion seed head, using various beads and fly stitch.
